Trough-Tec Systems are pleased to share the exciting news that they have achieved coveted Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification for the Green Trough range of cable management systems.

This certification marks a key milestone for TTS and its manufacturing partner, Furukawa, reinforcing its commitment to making a positive, greener change for the UK rail industry. This significant investment, both from a financial and resource perspective, is a step change for the business and its clients, who are increasingly expecting that their suppliers possess relevant green certification, such as EPD.

Through this certification, TTS can provide impartial evidence to new and existing customers the environmental credentials of Green Trough, which is not only manufactured from 100% recycled household waste, but that is re-recyclable at end-of-life, giving clients comfort that they work with an organisation who is committed to making a positive, greener change.

An Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, is a document which transparently communicates the environmental performance or impact of any product or material over its lifetime.

Within the construction industry, EPDs support carbon emission reduction by making it possible to compare the impacts of different materials and products to select the most sustainable option.

Architects, engineers, and designers can choose the most sustainable option for their projects. Manufacturers can optimise the impact of their products and market their carbon transparency.

EPDs are built around the life-cycle assessment practice and methodology. TTS have a “Cradle-to-gate with options” type EPD which details the manufacturing process and harvesting of a material, plus additional modules that take the product to installation and includes information on Green Trough being re-recyclable at end of life.

Lucy Prior, Business Growth Director at Trough-Tec Systems, commented: “I am absolutely delighted to share that we are now EPD certified, as is the full team, as we feel it truly reflects where the industry needs to go. Here at TTS, we live and breathe sustainability and are fully committed to making a positive change, now and for the future.

“We fully believe that being EPD certified will contribute significantly to Network Rail and the wider community’s strategic sustainability goals. It will enable us as a business to work more collaboratively with the wider industry and achieve great strides in the goal to Net Zero, whilst helping our clients work more safely, more efficiently and more sustainably.”

Ben Street, Division Manager (Functional Plastics Division) at Furukawa, said: “This is a fantastic moment for Furukawa; as a group we are committed to ensuring environmental, social, and economic sustainability, and the EPD enables us to communicate this commitment in a tangible form to our clients and stakeholders.  We have worked extremely closely with TTS to achieve this certification for the UK market. It is a very proud moment for all involved.”

We look forward to evolving further, with our newly acquired EPD certification at the core of our business.
